It is understood that the total length of the "COSCO Shipping Green Water 01" vessel is 119.8 meters, with a molded width of 23.6 meters and a molded depth of 9 meters. It has a designed draft of 5.5 meters, a maximum speed of 19.4 kilometers per hour, and a total weight of 8261 tons. It ranks first in the world in terms of total length, width, number of containers, deadweight tons, and battery capacity of electric container ships. A single ship can load up to 36 20 foot standard container sized battery boxes, with a total battery capacity of over 50000 kilowatt hours. The ship can also flexibly configure the number of battery boxes according to the needs of the voyage, effectively solving the problems of long charging time, low loading capacity, and short endurance of traditional electric container ships. As the world's first ship, this type of ship has broken through multiple key technologies from 0 to 1, including safe equivalent design for river sea direct ships, monitoring and battery swapping strategies for large capacity batteries, DC distribution and power systems, formulation of power control interface standards, and onshore joint commissioning tests for power systems. The ship can save 3900 kilograms of fuel per 100 nautical miles, reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 12.4 tons, and save energy costs by about 33500 yuan. It is expected to reduce emissions by 2472 tons throughout the year, of which about 2362 tons of carbon dioxide will be reduced. Its operation provides reference for achieving carbon reduction in river sea intermodal transportation, effectively promoting the shipping industry to achieve China's "carbon peak and carbon neutrality" goals ahead of schedule.
In recent years, the low-carbon and environmentally friendly transformation of the shipping industry has accelerated its development in Yangshan Port. The Maritime Safety Administration of Yangshan Port has conducted targeted research on battery powered container ships in the early stage, and conducted trials on board the ships. Targeted guidance has been provided for ship safety management, and relevant safety measures have been formulated to fully promote the safe development of green and smart ports.
This is the first time that the "COSCO Shipping Green Water 01" ship has been put into operation. Before the ship arrives at the port, the Ship Traffic Management Center of Yangshan Port Maritime Bureau strengthens safety guidance and traffic organization in advance through remote escort, ensuring navigation safety. After the ship berthed, law enforcement officers from the Maritime Safety Bureau of Yangshan Port conducted a comprehensive physical examination of the battery powered container ship, focusing on inspecting or providing targeted guidance on the unique power battery pack, battery compartment fire detection and alarm system, and crew's emergency response capabilities of this new energy ship. The aim was to promote crew members to better familiarize themselves with the characteristics of the ship and improve their emergency response capabilities.
It is reported that the Maritime Safety Administration of Yangshan Port actively implements the national dual carbon strategy, based on the trend of low-carbon transformation in the industry, vigorously promotes the construction of the Shanghai Port Green Energy Center, and creates multiple national firsts in serving and ensuring the synchronous operation of new energy refueling for international navigation large ships. Since March 15, 2022, synchronous LNG refueling operations for international vessels have been successfully implemented at Yangshan Port for the first time. As of March 25, 2024, 89 LNG refueling operations have been completed, with a cumulative refueling volume of 508000 cubic meters, achieving full coverage of LNG fuel refueling at Yangshan Port. Shanghai Port has become the second largest LNG ship to ship refueling service port in the world. On April 10th of this year, we successfully ensured the success of China's first green methanol refueling operation, effectively expanding the new field of port green energy refueling, and laying a solid foundation for Shanghai Port to expand and strengthen clean fuel refueling services for international navigation vessels. At the same time, the Maritime Safety Administration of Yangshan Port focuses on promoting the low-carbon transformation of the port, actively promoting the use of shore power for ships, supporting the rapid exchange of electricity for electric container ships, and promoting the construction of a green and zero carbon port area through "electricity replacing oil".
